Chapter 1. The Witch’s FamiliarThe Soul Mate has captured the imagination of countless individuals who pine and long for a relationship of this deep nature sometime during their life. The soul mate is generally thought to be something deeply connected to you through some magical fated string of providence in the woven blanket of time and space. When most people think of a soul mate, they think of a person, and more specifically a lover or Romantic partner. But what many people feel uncomfortable recognizing is that almost every primitive culture has stories of animal and plant soul mates, or non-human spiritual soul mates and counterparts as well as soul mates who are spirits of the dead. These are most widely known as a “familiar” spirits. The soul mate has taken a multitude of forms in ancient versions of this entity and wasn’t nearly as restrictive as our modern conceptions. Many tales of the Saints address their forming a special soul mate relationship with a mountain, tree, or even a flower. We find that this word comes from famulus, which is also where we get the word “family”. The word famulus, actually means “servant”, or more specifically a female servant who leads a household through her indentured devotion. This definition of family takes on new meaning when we look at the traditional role of the female housewife as bound to her duty.The familiar then is a kind of servant to the person with whom it is connected. It is hard not to recognize the hierarchical dominating implications of this idea. The familiar seems more like Dobby the house elf from Harry Potter under this meaning. We can certainly see the same idea of humans “ruling” over nature in the Judeo-Christian bible. In the creation story, Adam earns the privilege of naming all the things on earth, and through his ability to name them he gains dominion over them. This same idea is discussed at length in early Egyptian literature and the origins of animal husbandry and how it was the early people came to domesticate and live together with wild animals in harmonious existence. This is also where we get the word Dominate, an important consideration since if one were to domesticate an animal, you would have to use a strategy in order to ensure it would not attack you. This would be in keepingwith the concept of the familiar as an animal servant, much like Adam wrangled and domesticated the animals by calling them by their name, the witch gains the servitude of the familiar through a special type of taming bond. This bond that is formed through the domesticated spirit and that of the witch is a bond of trust. It is a relationship between two things based on an understanding and an exchange of services. Familiar spirits can also be literally “Family” spirits, as they can take the form of dead relatives. Ancestors play a huge role in the identity of many Familiar spirits around the globe, and the worship of the dead while keeping relations in them is a highly practiced form of divination. Some of the religious institutions such as Taoism and Hinduism advocate feats of self-domination in order to attract the more powerful Familiars, such as fasting and abstinence. Surprised I haven't written a review on this life-changing book. I read Catherine Ponder's The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, however, this one is the cream of the crop.Thanks to following the advice in this book, we weathered a tough period of unemployment where help came from unexpected sources thanks to following the tithing advice several months prior. Short, sweet, to the point. I don't normally mark up books, however, my first copy was marked-up, underlined, written in and highlighted.This is a gem of a book. Catherine's writing is authentic, practical with lots of examples. Highly recommend reading + adding this book to your library. Of all the books out there, this one's the real deal in a small package.

This book has some great wisdom. The chant "I'm receiving, I'm receiving now, I'm receiving all the good the universe has for me now" really works! Every time I read it aloud or in my head something good comes to me unexpectedly!

Excellent book like most I've read from Catherine Ponder. I appreciate the various examples she includes of how the application of her prosperity principles have worked for other people. She is very clear and practical; I also like that she suggests multiple affirmations for different situations that one can use /modify for one's situation. I really value this book from C. Ponder. I would recommend it to people who are looking to implement the principles of new thought christianity -specifically around prosperity- in their lives.

Great read and a few great ideas on a subject that has faded a bit over time ~ though no matter how "timeless" this subject is. This was a great reminder of what I have learned and a few different ways to think about it. Exactly what I was "asking for" ~ but very personal for me, as it may or may not be for you. I am happy! This is as real as the 2012 Harley Davidson FatBoy I won so quickly when I decided to add that model to my "things" ~ That's right, I had a personal experience that I could only attribute to "The Law of Attraction", but again, that was my personal story - of course along with everything else in my life. This book may help you with yours.

Love Catherine Ponder, been reading her for almost 30 years (I'm only 50 :-) I always turn to her books, and have had wonderful miracles using the prayers and affirmations she suggests. This book is one of my favourites.

Powerful book...When you finish reading this book your mind will be opened to receiving and you will start to receive...Catherine Ponder is a Minister in the Christian faith so if you are not into all the religious and biblical stuff this book may not be for you on the other hand if you are open to the religious stuff or enjoy it you will benefit greatly from it... I recommend reading it more than once, meditating upon the precepts and you will experience the power of receiving. Happy Reading.

All of her books are good. I bought all of them. I read her books from time to time. I find that The Power of Your Subconscious Mind,The Neville Reader: A Collection of Spiritual Writings and Thoughts on Your Inner Power to Create an Abundant Life,Saving the World using the Law of Attraction: It always begins with a small group that starts talking,The Reality Creation Technique,Benevolent Magic & Living Prayer, also help to flesh out what she talks about. These are a lot easier to read than the classic New Thought books.

Catherine Ponder's books stand alone, and can be read in any sequence. This one focuses on receiving, and it's a subject a lot of people have a hard time allowing. This is a good manual on how to allow prosperity and blessings to come into your life. Her series of books teaches people that you can be Christian (or another faith) and still be prosperous. and that there is no bonus for suffering financially.

About the Author

When Trisha Speed Shaskan was a girl, she wanted to become a superhero. Her mother gave her a Wonder Woman costume. Her dad crafted her a tiara and bracelets out of metal to match. Trisha imagined she could fight evil, fly an invisible airplane, and get anyone to tell the truth. While she didn’t grow up to be Wonder Woman, she still uses her imagination to write stories and to teach creative writing. Trisha has taught creative writing to children and adults for thirteen years. She has published 26 books for children, and more are forthcoming. She has an MFA in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Trisha currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Stephen, and their cat, Eartha, named after Eartha Kitt, famous for her role as Catwoman.

I'm a music teacher, and I bought this book, along with 2 others in the series, to help me teach each instrument family to my students.The book has really great factual information in it! It gives each instrument a name (like Clara or Max) and a personality that matches its timbre/tone color (which is a really smart way of describing timbre to little ones!). It talks about the technical aspects of each instrument; relative size, materials, mechanisms, how it's played, all in a very accessible way. There's even an index, glossary, and reference website in the back.The one thing I'm not crazy about is the illustrations. They depict each instrument as having a head and arms so they can play themselves...which doesn't make a lot of sense.I would recommend this book mostly for 2nd or 3rd graders, maybe 1st and 4th graders.

This is a great book to use in the music classroom. My students love learning about instruments that make beautiful music!

This book shows children the woodwind instruments, how they are played, describes their sounds, and gives each instrument a fun little persona.I especially like the page where the four reeded woodwinds are grouped together, and then --on the same page -- the two metal woodwinds are grouped together. A subtle little Venn diagram illustration.Nice book -- lots of information -- kids absorb it easily and remember it a long time.
