This manga is pretty useful and quite enjoyable to read at any age for anyone who is interested in electronics whether you are learning them in school or at home. But if your new to electronics and would like to build one using a breadboard I would highly recommend reading 'The Manga Guide to Electricity' to understand the fundamentals. I forgot this manga is a bit different from other manga, this one is read from left to right, not right to left in Japanese manga. Although I have not fully completely read this manga book since it turns out to be slightly damaged. I tried to fix it by stacking heavy books on top of it for days but it just keeps bending back. Order books on Amazon come with a slight risk as employees don't really care about quality in their product they store to be shipped out. If it is damage why ship it out?

Amazing. As picture learner, I can learn and understand microprocessors much better. I completely recommend this book and their series to your interest. I own electricity, physics, and this one.

A cool way to learn more about a technical subject without having to push through the imposing "walls of text" common in traditional textbooks. A good way to build a base-level understanding of microprocessors and the underlying concepts of how they function. I'd recommend buying it even if you already have a deep understanding of the topic, just to add a fun, lighthearted resource to your collection.

Excellent Introduction to 2 Important Topics In E.E. and Computer Science-- Digital Logic and Assembly LanguageMichio Shibuya, the author of other Excellent Manga Guides to Semiconductors and Fourier Transforms has together with his collaborators provideda sound conceptual basis for two vital courses and areas of study in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science: Digital Logic Design and Assembly/Machine Language. This is an excellent series which provides lighthearted introductions and summaries of many important technical and scientific concepts. An example of the clarity of this particular volume in the series is the great clarity the author provides for twos-complement arithmetic a necessary concept for assembly language programming. The nature of Digital Logic and the construction of a Computer CPU is ably explained. This book could prevent many of the dropouts in understanding of the Computer Science Curriculum and provide an important basis for further study.--Ira Laefsky Computer & IT Researcher and Consultant formerly on the Senior Staff of Arthur D. Little, Inc. and Digital Equipment Corporation

This is another in the long line of science and math related Manga Guides. One might think that limiting information to what can be found in a cartoon is the inevitable result of this approach, and one would be right. This book offers a solution to that problem. This book does have a Manga story attached, but the meat of the book is in the “further” descriptions of the CPU components that come after the Manga section in each chapter. CPUs are very complex, and a basic understanding of binary number systems, logic gates, circuit design, memory, addresses, registers, branching, etc., is required before you begin to talk about CPU design and operation. All of these subjects and more are clearly presented.I was surprised at the quality and breadth of the discussions. The authors provide a short but adequate description of assembly language, and go on to present high-level language, programming basics, and even digital signal processors. This is a quite complete introduction to the world of CPUs, and the many components that make the CPU possible. It should be accessible to interested students of high school age. Recommended!

Until I ran into this book I had no idea that there was an entire series that combined the ever popular manga style of comics with a serious explanation of tech topics. Wow. Alas for the purists amongst you, this book is not that strict a manga. The pages are numbered from front to back European style. Oh well. The approach is a light hearted way to learn about the hardware under most any computer you'll meet and use. The book never seems to call it a Neumann machine, which is what it is. A general purpose architecture of a basic computer, defined in the Manhattan Project of World War 2 by Johnny von Neumann. The concepts are explained in a simple enough way. No hard math equations. A good approach that certainly works. And the book delves into types of hardware like Field Programmable Gate Arrays. (FPGAs).To a EE student all this should be familiar. But the book is more aimed at a general reader who is not majoring in EE. Perhaps a science high school or college undergrad.En passant I see that the authors are Japanese. I wonder if they know this topic's connection to the atomic bomb?

This is a great intro to microprocessors. I'm a programmer, but never had the opportunity to learn much about how a CPU works at a low level, but have been interested. This was the perfect introduction, and I learned a ton. There were many ah-ha moments throughout the read. The book leaves you with a great, great foundation to branch out and explore more.Since it did such a great job, I'm now interested in picking up other "The Manga Guide To..." books to get a solid high level on other topics.
