This is the bible for golfers who want to learn to have a better mindset when playing and practicing the game. If you find yourself getting worked up during a round of golf, or feel like your game is stagnating, this book can help get your mind right. Well-written and straightforward I recommend this book to anyone who takes the game seriously (maybe too seriously). I learned that the way to improving my game was not in perfecting the golf swing but in improving my thinking and emotions on the course.

Bought this for my 14 year old to help him tackle the mental side of the game. He's enjoying the read and says he's got some good stuff out of it. My understanding is that is is written petty plainly and directly with many annectdotes and examples from famous golfers. He's not a big reader, but this seems to be one for him.

The pro at my course recommended this book to me. A nice reminder that the game of golf will always win and we can have a good game but it won't be perfect. Some of the chapters were better than others at soothing me after a not so good game. The best chapter, in my opinion, was the about how to practice.

As a 21 handicap the weakest point of my game has always been mental. My practice sessions were focused on long irons/driver, and to a smaller degree putting, with a little short game thrown in. I analyzed and tweaked my game during the round based on what the previous shot did, and couldn't help but get *upset* when the inevitable triple bogeys came along.I now rarely get upset over a bad shot, never practice putting, never practice long irons, haven't changed anything about my swing/grip, and am playing the best golf of my life. I love his simple mental approach when you're playing a round.I restrict any analysis/tweaking of my game now strictly to the driving range.

Book is perfect. I will read this book many times because it hits a chord in golf, life and overall thoughts. I really enjoyed the stories and the advice. I hated to read the last page but am eager to read it again for some reason. My son is a soccer player and we discuss routines in his sport, training techniques and balance. I have read him sections and we talk about them back and forth and we end with something we are doing or going to do, which brings a smile as we drift off into our own thoughts.

Using positive visualization to set your mind right to put you in the position to succeed. Practice with a purpose. Don’t just pound balls. Focus on speed on greens hitting to collars and making chips and putts when you practice. Doesn’t matter how easy or short the chip or putt is. Just make them. Then later focus on your 135 and In wedge game. Hit different types of shots. Make those priorities. Then practice the long clubs that are the ones that absolutely give you supreme confidence that you will execute the best shot in play. Most time should be spent on putting chipping and wedge play.

I've taken golf lessons for years, but haven't been able to break through. I bought this book this winter hoping to see if I could develop a new approach to the game. I was so impressed with the book that I've read two other Dr. Rotella books since. I also recommended it to a golfing buddy. With the extended spring, I haven't been able to see if there are any effects. But I certainly am taking a much different approach as I head into this spring.

Very interesting. I found myself applying the theories not only to me, but also my playing partners. I will be reading this book a second and even a third time to improve my attitude towards the game of golf.

It's too bad this author inserts her own politics into this important topic. Perhaps, she is gas lighting her readers to feel guilty if they do not support her views. I believe she could have written chapter 6 without inserting her preferences.

After working 14 years medical, 8 of those years in psychiatry, it's reefreshing to see such a well written book tackling a less talked about behavior both socially and romantically.A few things to point out, which the author vaguely points out in the beginning of the book is everyone has some form of gaslighting behavior but not all have a pattern. Books like this can empower the wrong audience. The book tackles important behavioral patterns with excellent examples from family relations, romantic relationships to co-workers and more.Would have received 5 stars however the "Mad for Power" chapter could be eliminated, not in its entiery, but when the author inserts her own political opinions in book. She technically "gaslights" her own political viewpoint as if the reader is naive enough to fall for it. All other chapters are excellent. If you have ever struggled with a girlfriend or boyfriend (or other) that does the "push & pull" method (pushes you away then pulls you back in) this book explains it for you. Happy reading!

This book is a must for anyone who’s questioned or is questioning the health of a relationship, including politicians who represent us. There are lots of easy to read descriptions, quotes, behaviors to watch for and ways the reader can deal or get out of the relationship. A whole section of resources is also provided for additional national help. What is a gaslighter and why do they act like this? Find answers.

The subject of this book is difficult because there is no general definition of a 'Gaslighter' and the author did the next best thing by describing the characteristics of gaslighting and then a lot more on what gaslighters do - 'They won't answer your questions', 'They watch you as you work', 'Their words don't match their actions' and so on. The obvious problem is that we suspect that not everyone who exhibits one or more of the characteristics is truly a 'gaslighter', how, for example do we distinguish a egomaniac from a gaslighter? The author says that a gaslighter 'is obsessed with optics' and they 'detest intellectuals'. There are egomaniacs who do not have the other characteristics described by the author, and it seems pretty clear that many intellectuals are also 'gaslighters' in other ways that define a gaslighter. This is not an easy subject and the author has nonetheless produced a readable but not a very helpful book because one is left with too many descriptions that are too generally applicable, and the lack of a clear definition of a gaslighter will remain to trouble the reader.

Please understand that I had no idea what 'Gaslighting' meant. A good friend, who is actually much younger than I shared this topic. Wow, is an understatement.Gaslighting is a great book, I actually utilized the Wyspersinc feature and crushed this book. Stephanie has written a very logical progression through a maze of intrigue and situations.I am looking forward to interviewing Dr Sarkis and share education and outreach on the topic of Gaslighting and mental health. If you have been subjected to Gaslighting my heart hurts for you.

Dr. Sarkis put into words the vague, unsubstantiated pictures I had floating around in my head. She gave them form and function, helping me to realize what exactly this phenomenon was. How can you combat something (so prevalent in our society btw) without being able to articulate it, to understand it? You can't. Which is why Dr. Sarkis's book is so pivotal. Pick it up. You will not be disappointed. In fact, you'll be empowered.

Dr. Moulton’s book is a must read for everyone, especially for young adults to help avoid a devastating relationship with a gaslighter. It is easy to read and filled with information on how to identify someone who uses gaslighting techniques, and how to break away from their manipulations. Anyone entering the dating world or work force needs this book.

Dr. Sarkis’ book has shed light on many of the relationships in my life. Her book not only helps me identify gaslighting behavior, but also gives concrete, doable recommendations that have helped me live a healthier and much less stressful life. Thank you, Dr. Sarkis.

This may be an absolutely essential book for those who are interested seriously in the ideas behind Shiva God of creation and destruction – the God of the centrifugal force which destroyed the Bindu and with Brahman, created the so-called Big Bang. The book is full of pictures and marvelous stories that even a Strong devotee of Shiva like myself, On myself learning new things and being transported to new worlds of wonder and excitement. I don't think there's a spare word in the whole book and if you are interested in Shiva I can suggest several other books that aren't worth half of what this one is worth I have to thank the author, Devdutt Pattanaik, but this incredible plethora of marvels equal to any book of fancy which turns out to be authentic and absolutely on the mark in a manner of showing one has to live life to the fullest. A Roman Catholic by birth and I practiced I am also a Hindu, and specifically a devotee of Shiva – I cannot recommend this book more highly.

Seven Secrets of Shiva is a non-fiction work that endeavors to explain Shiva, the Lord of Kailash through the labyrinth of myths, stories and cultural perception. Why is Shiva dressed like an uncouth tramp? Why does he smear ashes from the cemetery, on his body and dress with a tiger skin? Why did he arm Ravana and Basmasura with boons that finally led to trouble? Who is this God who acts like a hermit devoid of family, commitments and emotion and yet has a huge following of ganas, wives and sons? One will find all the answers for these questions in this book. With impeccable research, Devdutt Patnaik steers us through Sati’s marriage to Shiva, the impact of her death on him and his resultant withdrawal from the world.I liked the way, the author explains the role of Parvathi in Shiva’s world. It is she who facilitates Shiva’s engagement back in the world. It is she who teaches esoteric nuances of sex and love to him. And author’s assertion that Shiva was innocent to the world’s prejudices and cultural perception makes a lot of sense. As with any other mythology book, the author has delved deep into both north and south indian fables, folk tales, myths and legends and has presented Shiva to the common man to understand, venerate and learn the primitive wisdom that would help us escape the trapping of the world.Devdutt’s language is simple to understand yet he manages to explain complex arguments about Shiva in very understandable terms.Plus Points: Thorough research of all legends, stories and myths related to Shiva.Minus Points: Felt that the first chapter dragged a bit with a lot esoteric explanations.

Very well researched and objectively presented. Pattanaik digs into the esoteric and symbolic manifestations and representations of Shiva. As a practicing Hindu, I found this book to add greatly to my own understanding of the implicit within the art/ narrative depictions of Shiva. I'm not sure if this is a good "beginners" book - but highly recommend it for the spiritually curious. I also enjoy that the author steps away from the obligatory religious anecdotes (for instance, of Shakti mounting Shiva to invigorate him to benefit the universe - compared to the layman account of the same depictions placing Shiva at Shakti's feet to calm the angry goddess). Cannot wait to read Pattanaik's other works!

This book is meant for all those people who view Hinduism from western work view.Mr Pattanaik's style of writing is very simple and keeps the reader glued. This book has answered lot of questions which I had carried since my childhood and has successfully transformed my mental state .The best take away from this book has been discussion about the topic-Meaning of life!I feel proud of my religion after reading this book but this book is not about Hinduism and its advantages though.Shiv Ji is the centre point of the book and I will definite go for other works of the author.

Western minds understand the usage of stained glass in the western churches. Pattananaik makes very clear the symbolism inherent in the ancient stone and bronzes of Bharata. This review is worlds away from conveying what a sincere reader might realize from his culture. Beautifully done!!! I look forward to reading more of his work.

The author brilliantly explains the mythology and esoteric nature of Shiva. I always had a fascination with this God because he smoked marijuana and had snakes draped on him and wondered why he was widely revered in Hinduism. Now I know, and I have fallen more in love with the "God" with the greater understanding I achieved from this book.

This book is wonderful. Not only is it a profound theological discussion, but reading it put me in a very calm and positive state in the moment. I have it on audio book as well and listen to it periodically.

Understand what a lot of idol craftsmen intended to convey through the stone carvings. Probably the idols were never meant to be worshipped but rather communicate awesome philosophies and concepts that cannot be easily explained. Or rather the idols are "logos" of thoght concepts. This book will really enrich your understanding of indian mythology. This is a must read along with seven secrets of Vishnu

The first time I read the book, I didn't find it extremely insightful or cohesive. But the second time around it made a whole lot more sense. It's like all these connections started firing up. It's truly a great book with contrarian thinking and insights that make you pause. This video highlights some of these key concepts and hopefully will help you make the connections the first time around. It's part of a larger effort to create a completely-free library of compelling books in a handcrafted video format - check it out at bookvideoclub.com and enjoy!

In this chest-thumping book, author Peter Thiel comes off as a brilliant young man with a tendency toward exaggeration. Indeed, everything about him seems exaggerated: his businesses successes (founder of PayPal and Palantir), his net worth ($1.5 billion and counting), his educational credits (Stanford BA in philosophy, JD in law), his political views (avowedly libertarian), his energy level (off the charts), his self-confidence (not a doubt in sight), his vision for technology (human longevity, “seasteading” communities, eventual takeover by intelligent machines). And now this book. Let me assure you that Zero to One is worth reading, even if you’re not engaged in the world of startups and venture capital. It’s worth reading in the same way a triple espresso is worth drinking: it makes you feel superhuman, at least for the moment. You can almost hear the caffeine coursing through your veins as you absorb the ideas. You might want to read the book on two levels: both as a business book and as a political manifesto. And because the book is a hybrid, you may need to work a little to separate the baby from the bath water. Thiel’s first point is that creating a game-changing company means going from zero to one—from nothing to something, instead of going from something to a slightly better something. What a zero-to-one company does is lay claim to an uninhabited stretch of market space in order to create a monopoly. A monopoly, in Thiel’s vocabulary, is not the bad kind we associate with bullies. It’s the good kind that opens up valuable market territory by doing something new.Is he simply using the word monopoly to provoke us? Maybe, but it’s an effective way to get our attention so he can deliver the book’s main point, which is simply this: Businesses succeed better when they differentiate rather than compete. Direct competition drains value as companies beat each other up. Differentiation creates value as companies charge more for desirable products and services that customers can’t get anywhere else. It’s the same principle that forms the basis of brand strategy. We’ve already seen many books on the subject, including Positioning in 1981, by Jack Trout and Al Ries, and even classical writings on strategy by Sun Tzu and Carl von Clausewitz. Why play dress-up with old ideas? So Thiel can lash on his peg leg and black eye patch and make room for further piratical assertions.Consider the following:“Creative monopolists” give customers more choices by adding entirely new categories of abundance. The history of progress is the history of new monopolies replacing incumbents. “Every business is successful exactly to the extent that it does something others cannot.” Monopoly, therefore, is not a pathology but a condition of success. While “every monopoly is unique,” he adds, they share these four attributes: “proprietary technology, network effects, economies of scale, and branding.” Without these four, any business will be the equivalent of a family restaurant, where the kids have to wash dishes to keep the place running in the black. He advises us to “err on the side of starting too small.” The perfect place to start is where there’s a small concentration of people served by few or no competitors. From there you can scale it up, as long as you have the advantages of proprietary technology (your secret sauce) and network effects (the tendency of a service to become more valuable as more people use it).Whatever you do, don’t “disrupt” a market, he warns. Disruption has been devalued to “a self-congratulatory buzzword for anything posing as something trendy and new.” Disruptive companies in Silicon Valley often pick fights they can’t win. Also in Silicon Valley, “would-be entrepreneurs are told that nothing can be known in advance; we’re supposed to listen to what customers say they want make nothing more than a ‘minimum viable product,’ and iterate our way to success.” He says that Apple succeeded by doing the exact opposite. He encourages would-be entrepreneurs to ask this question: “What valuable company is nobody building?” Any good answer to this question must necessarily harbor a secret. It can be a secret of nature or secret of human nature, but in both places there are always hidden truths to be discovered—if we only look in a certain way. When you share your secret, you turn others into co-conspirators.With contrarian flair he asserts that the less money a startup pays its CEO, the better it will do. “In no case should a CEO of an early-stage, venture-backed startup receive more than $150,000 per year in salary.” High pay incentivizes him to defend the status quo instead of working aggressively to find and fix problems.“The most important task in business—the creation of new value—cannot be reduced to a formula and applied by professionals.” He observes that most founders are contradictions, bigger-than-life characters who can “make authoritative decisions, inspire strong personal loyalty, and plan ahead for decades.” He cites Richard Branson, Howard Hughes, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs, and tosses in pop icons such as Elvis, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and Britney Spears. Finally, he examines a range of scenarios for the future of humanity, borrowed from philosopher Nick Bostrom. The most common four are: 1) recurrent collapse, a never-ending oscillation between prosperity and ruin; 2) a plateau, the belief that the rest of the world will catch up to the richest countries, and then we’ll stay at that level; 3) extinction, in which our technology will bring humanity to a cataclysmic end; and 4) takeoff, the idea espoused by transhumanists, in which humans increasingly blend with machines to create a world of complexity and abundance that we can’t even imagine today. Clearly, Thiel is in this camp, although he’s careful not to say it.This is a fascinating collection of thoughts, including some surprising truths and more than a few exaggerations. So which part of the book is the baby, and which is the bath water?Let’s start with monopolies. Do they really serve society better than price-busting competitors? Sure, as long as they unleash creativity and generate broad-based wealth. When they mature into self-perpetuating bullies (such as Microsoft, and increasingly Google, Apple, and Amazon) they tend to block other innovators using any means at their disposal.Next, does every business really succeed exactly to the extent that it does something different? Not quite. First of all, it’s possible to launch a product that’s different but not compelling. Think of Pets.com, Apple Newton, or Clairol Touch-of-Yogurt Shampoo. Second, monopoly status doesn’t always encourage broad success. Monopoly becomes pathology when we create rules that favor a handful of “haves” and in the process hollow out the middle class, as we’re doing now.He notes that every monopoly is unique, sharing only “proprietary technology, network effects, economies of scale, and branding.” This is one of Thiel’s truest observations. Strong companies are those that start with a unique market position; weak companies are those that fail to differentiate, believing the world only wants more instead of different.Erring on the side of starting too small is good advice, too, but what about “Don’t disrupt”? He laments that the concept of disruption has degenerated into anything posing as trendy and new. Granted. But wouldn’t it be better to simply reject the popular definition? He could then reaffirm Clay Christensen’s original epiphany in The Innovator’s Solution—the observation that established products can be upended by cheaper or inferior solutions that don’t at first appear to be threats, then later grow into established products themselves. Christensen was the one who first mapped the road to Monopolyville. Couldn’t Thiel give him the credit? In a sweeping generalization, he claims that Silicon Valley engineers are expected to “listen to what customers say they want” and give it to them. Really? I’ve worked there 35 years and have rarely heard this, except from a few old-school marketers. Even the designers at Apple start with a “minimum viable product” and iterate their way to success. They just do it before they go to market instead of after, so their products seem to spring fully formed from the brow of Tim Cook or Jony Ives.Thiel has said that one of the book’s most valuable contributions is the notion that a monopoly is based on a secret. This is actually a great way to think about it. An interesting fact about these types of secrets is that they tend to stay secrets long after you tell everyone. If an idea is good enough, goes the saying, you’ll have to ram it down people’s throats. Think about the Aeron chair, the Prius, and even PayPal. None of these businesses launched themselves.Another of Thiel’s rules is that the CEO of a startup should never receive more than $150,000 in salary. Nice and concrete. It’s too bad more CEOs of incumbent monopolies couldn’t set a similar example, as Jobs did with his annual salary of $1. What message does a seven- or eight-figure salary send to the employee whose innovative ideas are consistently labeled “too risky?”Finally, are successful monopolists always contradictory characters? Not from where I sit. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos don’t strike me as particularly contradictory, although I’m sure they’re more driven than they might appear. It could be that Peter Thiel himself is a walking contradiction, and therefore wants to create some positive context for it. He delights in courting controversy, starting at Stanford when he attacked various sacred cows such as political correctness and hate-speech laws in his newspaper The Stanford Review, and now by writing a book that appears to defend monopolists.Despite its exaggerations, pirated ideas, and libertarian swagger—or maybe because of them—Zero to One makes for a lively read. It contains a number of refreshing insights and personal truths that you won’t get from other books on inventing the next big thing. Just keep the baby and throw out the bath water.

Have you ever read an article or book that defined something that you’ve abstractly believed for years? When you read it you let out an affirmative mental “aha!”. I had one of these moments recently when I read Zero to One by Peter Thiel. This book helped shape and better define my investment strategy.Far too often I see a microcap company’s investor presentation start off with some enormous addressable market ($20 billion, $100 billion, etc) and what follows is “If we just capture 2%….”. This has always annoyed me because in many ways the worst thing an undercapitalized public microcap can do is try to attack a huge highly competitive market. In Zero to One, Peter Thiel talks about how small emerging companies/and investors need to take the opposite approach. In simple terms, aim for monopoly, competition is for losers. Monopolies have far greater profits, pricing power, and ability to think long-term. For small companies like microcaps to be a monopoly they need to focus on dominating a small market that is expanding, and then further grow into other complimentary markets. “Capitalism is premised on the accumulation of capital, but under perfect competition all profits get competed away.” When a company dominates a market (large or small) it is much more profitable and valuable then one owning 1% of a large competitive market. When I look back at some of the best microcap performers they too had this characteristic of dominating a small market that is expanding rapidly. These companies normally have high organic growth rates, profitability, and pricing power. These powerhouse businesses can fund high rates of growth from internal cash flows. Their market leadership and profitability allows them to make longer-term strategic decisions that provide an even wider moat.

This is an excellent book. Not many people can be entrepreneurs, but I believe this book could inspire many and it can certainly guide one to a more open-minded approach. Peter Thiel shows us that unconventional thinking (i.e. zero to one), is absolutely required to succeed with a new business. Conventional thinking (for instance that competition is unavoidable (if you have something proprietary a la apple, it IS AVOIDABLE) , that competition is wonderful and necessary {but actually it is NOT}), is the linear approach (go from 1 to 1.1). Conventional means copy others and when you do that you have to compete mainly by cutting prices. The leading businesses truly innovate (and everyone else follows or stay behind). I started reading a library copy but realized I want to own it because I have to read it slowly many times like a good wine. The copy that I received is in great condition; good deal, thanks!

Things are beginning to escalate. Women are being killed and the war is getting closer. To protect herself and to help save humans and the paranormal world, Amy finds herself getting deeper and deeper into the vampire world.

I really enjoyed the Fatal Allure series, but it's only 30 percent of the book. She has included a couple of other books that leave you hanging, and aren't as well written. So it's like several unfinished stories, and that drives me crazy! The last one mixes up names, has bad grammar, and is really confusing at times. Frustrating!

I bought this book expecting to read Fatal Allure book 5, to my great surprise only 30% of the content matched the title, the other 70% of the content, was a total different book "Bonus Book". well i did not pay for bonus book, i payed for Fatal Allure , this is fraud!!! the next book is just the same!!!! shame!

In this continued series, Amy has to make some hard choices. I feel more in tune with the characters, like they're a part of me. Mrs. Woods bring another well written story. I can't wait to start book 6.

love this series so far, cant seem to put them down, a bit pricy for the length of book but amazing characters, easy to read.

She keeps me engrossed in the story I can't put it down.

Amy McCartney's now the lead forensic investigator on the Centrefold Murders, as the LAPD case has now been dubbed by the press, personified in this book by Wes, the intrepid and dogged young reporter.Five young girls have met a grisly fate at the hands of a Jack the Ripper-style killer, who mutilates their bodies and takes their wombs for what turns out to be a nefarious supernatural - and evil of course - plot, that will see ultimate power in the hands of the scourge of humanity and all decent supernatural beings - which as you would expect, includes not only Amy (an Awakened witch, Vincent (an ancient, but still hot-looking vampire), Damon, Amy's hotter than hot Hunter lover and BFF (and potion-making spellster supreme), witch Faye.I thought Amy's other close friend Cara was a bit of a weak character, as her only purpose seems to be having a hissy-fit if she doesn't like Amy's sensible advice or mild criticism, which often leads Amy into danger to protect her friend, while trying not to reveal her psychic powers as the source of her knowledge about Cara's latest lover, or the peril she's in herself by staying with them.I was glad Amy was finally able to save another girl Carrie, from being murdered by her father (under the mind control of the evil Scott Wilkinson), albeit with the help of Vincent, who had more sense than Amy and was able to interrogate the killer before he self-combusted.With the truth of what the satanic vampire Elric is plotting - a race of 'pure' super-vampires who will kill Vincent and all his kind in an Armageddon of unimaginable horror! Can Amy, Vincent and the others unite once more to prevent the end of supernatural (and probably human) life forever - the truth is in here, so get it today!

Amy wants to learn and harness her recently awakened witch's powers. She ends up turning to Joseph, Mika and Ivanka. These are three vampires who were very powerful witches/warlock prior to their turning. They have a coven, and Amy approaches them to assist in her learning. Plus, she was suspended by Rick, her LAPD boss, for 30 days due to him not being able to trust her. Her friend Cara begins to remember even when under control of a vampire. Can Amy use this to come clean with Cara and share Amy's secrets over the past year? I can not wait for the sixth book to be released later this month.
