This book is very confirming and eye-opening for me. As a graphic designer who runs two businesses, I often wonder if what I'm doing is making any impact at all. But to know that even Jesus, before he died on the cross as our Messiah, spent most of his life as a carpenter, an entrepreneur, creating wooden furnitures that helped people with his earthly dad. That just gave me a renewed perspective of how God created us in His image — it is ingrained in us to create according to the talents He's given us! Not just that, He took risk and invested His whole heart on us. I see my businesses and calling in a new light and renewed fervor after reading this book. I highly recommend it, whether you're a creative person or not, whether you're an entrepreneur or not.

My name is Ciara Brooke and I am a singer/songwriter from Tonkawa, OK. I've struggled with the idea of being a pop recording artist for some time because I thought that since I'm a Christian, I could only write Christian music. However, I love pop music and that's what I tend to write naturally. I've struggled with the idea of being in the secular music realm, thinking that that couldn't be God's calling on my life, because it's not obviously ministry. God has revealed to me through many different ways (this book being one of those ways) that just because my career is in a secular field, it does not mean that I am not following His will for my life and doing His work in the world. Jordan Raynor explains with great detail and simplicity that we are called to create, and that that can take shape in many different ways. If all Christians only worked in "the ministry" (church, missions, etc.) then how would we reach the world??? This book really helped me understand that I am doing the work of God in and through my life when I put to use the skills and talents that He has given me. We need to lean into the creative gifts that God has given each of us, because no two Christians have been given the exact same gift. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been struggling with knowing their place in the world or in their career, or even for those who are wanting to understand the creative personality of God. I finished the book feeling encouraged, knowing that I can be confident in the gifts God has given me and that I don't have to doubt the creative dreams He has given me.

Called to Create has brought me closer to God and into a deeper understanding of how to “live a life worthy of my calling.” (Ephesians 4:1) In a world focused on personal gain it is important we see the value in creating, artistic and entrepreneurial, “for the good of others,” offering our talents he gifted as worship to him, to show love for one another, and create for his kingdom with the very passions he gave to us. That’s not to say we don’t put in the hard work with balance and trust in God, but that hard work serves a purpose, an eternal one. There is a vulnerable honesty in Called to Create, as if a Godly friend sat down with me over coffee and assured me, “we are in this together.” We as Christian creatives and entrepreneurs need one another and I find comfort in knowing there are others that face the same struggles. I cannot wait to see what God does through this book! Not just for me but the entire Called to Create community.I know I will go back to the book often but it has left an impression on me I will carry for my lifetime-it’s not about me, it’s about God. My calling is “for the good of others,” showing, reflecting, revealing God’s character which all equals LOVE, my absolute favorite thing to write about.

I'm not super into non-fiction. I'll read it and enjoy it, but it's not often that a non-fiction book grabs me and interests me like this one did. It was incredible! As someone working towards being a professional photographer and attempting to start a baseball program, there were all kinds of helpful insights and encouragement. I really like the real-life stories; a lot of pretty amazing people out there.Growing up in the Lutheran church*, the idea of vocation is not a new concept. And yet, it's so easy to forget and think that the "big players" for the kingdom are the missionaries, pastors, and those in some kind of full-time ministry. Raynor hammers home the point that EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON is a missionary, called to do their work for the glory of God. It's such a simple idea, summed up well in Colossians 3:23, but we still forget.Called to Create will remind you of principles and values you already hold, give you new insights, and make you think about old things in a new way.If you are a creative or wanting to get into a venture that is creative or just know some creatives and want to maybe understand and help them a little more, READ THIS BOOK!!!!*maybe other denominations talk about this too, but it's a big thing in the Lutheran church.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a copy before the book was released and I was really blown away with how poignant the book is for creatives.I’ve read a lot of books about creativity (The Artisan Soul, Culture Making, Every Good Endevour, etc.) and I was a little concerned this would just say the same things as those, but Jordan really adds a lot of unique perspective to his stories.I was also happy to find myself enjoying the entrepreneurial side of this book far more than I thought I would. I never saw myself as one, but now I see that all creatives are entrepreneurs as well.Since reading it, it’s subtley changed the way I do business, strengthening my calling and identity in what I’m called to do as a creative and business owner.I’d highly recommend this book. It will become a new classic for a modern era.
